Penny studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh and worked for 2 years in the UK before emigrating to Brisbane in 2012.

She enjoys delivering holistic care across all areas of family medicine, appreciating the unique opportunity GPs have to provide continuity of care to patients and their families throughout their life. She is particularly passionate about women and children’s health, having done further focused training in Paediatrics and Obstetrics & Gynaecology, gaining both practical experience and post-graduate qualifications in these specialties. She manages all aspects of women’s health including contraception, cervical screening, management of menstrual problems and menopause, sexual health, fertility issues and pre-conception, pregnancy and postnatal care. She has a special interest in optimising children’s health and wellbeing from birth through to adolescence including routine medical care, newborn care and feeding, growth and development and childhood immunisations. In addition to these areas, she enjoys preventative health, chronic disease management and coordinating complex care needs of patients of all ages.

She is currently working part-time, balancing work with assisting in training GP registrars and spending time with her young family.

Dr Byford operates her own medical services business at Kedron Wavell Medical Centre.
